Skydive

Pira was shaking and unable to move as she stayed frozen on her hands and knees.

“Come on Pira. Calm down.” Jem sighed as she pushed a stray hair out of her face.”I saved your life.”

“You pushed me off of a building!” Pira craned her neck to look Jem in the eyes. “How is that saving my life? We could have died.”

“But we didn’t. Did we?”

Jem was always confident and willing to risk it all. She was the go big or go home type.

Pira was the complete  opposite. She was more than happy to stay in her corner of the world hiding behind a good book or computer and leave the dangerous stuff to someone else. She was more than outside her box on the sidewalk on this insane night.

“Come on. We have to move.”

Jem knelt down beside Pira and tried to help her up, but she ripped her arm out of Jem’s grasp.

“Don’t touch me!” She yelled rolling into a seated position. “This is all your fault.” She leaned forward and cupped her head in her hands and let out a sob.

“Oh come on now.” Jem rolled her eyes.

She wasn’t use to dealing with other girls. She had two older brothers and nothing but uncles. Her mom tried as hard as she could to combat the tom boy daughter she was given, but the fight was lost before it even began.

“What? You just expect me to act like this is no big deal? I just fell 15 stories. I can’t just act normal right now. I don’t even know how to feel.” Pira slowly stood up and brushed the grit off of her pants but making it worse.

“Well I could have just left you up there.” Jem was over this. “I am not going to apologize for saving your life.” She picked up the duffel bag on the sidewalk and began walking back towards the city.

Pira sat there for another minute weighing her options. She knew that she wouldn’t be able to survive on her own, but she feared what the future would hold if she teamed up with Jem, but what choice did she have? She got up and ran after Jem.

“Wait up. I’m coming with you.”

Jem just shook her head and kept walking.

“This is going to be fun.” She mused.
